Thanks to a grant from the High Street Innovation Fund, the North Shields Chamber of Trade and Commerce has installed five bike racks in the town centre, four in Bedford Street and one in Church Way.
The racks were manufactured and installed by local firm William Oliver & Rodman Russell Limited.
“We considered a number of possible sites in and around the town centre and concluded that the racks would be of most use in Bedford Street and Church Way”, commented Miles Walton, Secretary of the Chamber. “We hope that this will encourage more shoppers and other visitors to the centre to travel here by bike. Cyclists told us that there were insufficient places for secure bike parking and these racks should help take away some of that concern.”
