We’ve heard reports that forged £20 notes have been received by businesses in various parts of North Shields in the last few days. (Member business I Love Office Supplies tells us that they have detector pens for notes.)
At the Exchange in North Shields today, we celebrated the 75th anniversary of the capture of the Engima code books by local boy Thomas Brown. His action in taking the books from a sinking German U boat helped to shorten the war and earned him a George Medal. One of the rooms in the Exchange is called the Thomas Brown Room and this had been tastefully redecorated for the occasion.
